THE FAIRYTALE COTTAGES OF CARMEL- A SLIDESHOW
After 20 years in Carmel, I am still enchanted by the architecture.
Hugh Comstock, inspired by the Fairytale Illustrations of Arthur Rackham, is credited with starting the Fairytale Cottage style in Carmel.
Why do we love this style so? It takes us back to the days when we were children and believed in “happily ever after”, “once upon a time”, magic, tiny cottages inhabited by elves, gnomes, fairies and Fairy Godmothers who can wave a magic wand.
Recently one of you suggested that a slide show format would be fun to see for a change. ( Actually, she requested fewer words). So here goes.

Once upon a time..Tales from Carmel by the Sea 
Oh my word, I’m so impressed that you did this. It was quite wonderful. I do have to say, though, that part of the reason why it was so wonderful is BECAUSE of all the words you’ve written giving the background and information about the Carmel cottages. I’ve been reading / lurking for a while and felt it was time to say a heart felt “Thank you” for all these wonderful cottages and gardens.

Wow! That was a lot of work, I’m sure! Will have to wait till I get to my computer to view the slide shows, since I can’t see them on my phone.
I very much appreciate all the “words”; your descriptions bring all the photos to life for me!
I will be visiting my daughter in Monterey next month, and I will make sure to take an afternoon to walk the streets of Carmel and enjoy the homes in person!

However, I do love reading what you write about your “featured” cottages– perfect words with perfect photographs. And I’ve finally learned the names of so many of the flowers that surround me.

To see them all reunited in one post is amazing ! These cottages are so unique, there’s a lot of details in each one of them. It’s so impressive ! If I’d walk the streets of Carmel I would feel as if I’d enter in a fairytale ! The cottages, the flowers, the trees, everything is so charming and so original !

Wonderful! And to think of music with it. Brilliant! I visit Carmel once a year to pet/house sit for a relative and feel like the luckiest person in the world.

All my home ideas in one slide show. Wow!. wow! wow! I love them all. I am so pleased also that you gave the reason why they are so much loved by us. Its true, it does take us back to the the time when we were children and even if our lives were not great, we had a dream in those fairy tail cottages and stories. As you said there was nearly always a “Happy ever after”and I think that is what we all dreamed and hoped for as children, so thank you so much for making me feel warm and fuzzy inside again and showing us the amazing slide show.
Linda, what a lovely time strolling through the gates and gardens of so many charming cottages/homes. It felt like meandering down the lanes of a picture perfect village in the Cotswolds of England. Oh to have such an enticing garden of my own to enjoy a good book and a cuppa tea.

Enchanting from start to finish! I have memories of vacationing in Carmel, and looking at these beautiful works of art that are actually peoples homes!!!! It brings back the smell of the ocean and walking through the most charming town and the unique shops, and the weather-beaten cypress trees bent into knarled woody shapes.And beating sun that never let’s you feel uncomfortable because the breeze from ocean is all around you! Oops I got carried away! I’ll take any one of the cottages and be enternaly in heaven!!!!!!
