HALLOWEEN IN CARMEL

CARMEL is turning 96 this month and will celebrate its birthday with the traditional costumed Halloween Parade — in which all are invited to walk — Saturday, Oct. 27.

The procession of costumed grownups, kids and pets, along with carloads of city dignitaries is set to begin at 11:am and will make its way through the commercial district and down Ocean Avenue before ending at the Sunset Center, where a hot dog lunch will begin at noon.

I won’t be able to attend – I am back in Kansas City. But Carmel is ready

Pumpkins are everywhere.

Outside of the shops,

Inside the restaurants,

In shop windows,

And outside homes.

Autumn wreaths ,

scarecrows,

Ghosts

And cheery gate pulls

decorate homes.

One enterprising family constructs a pumpkin “totem pole”.

My first Halloween greeting comes at the Cottage where I stop in for breakfast the day we arrive.

I am amused to see that even the oatmeal bowls are in the spirit of the season.

When I stop by City Hall to do some research,

I find myself in the Insane Asylum

Where I am invited to “Enter If I Dare”, I dare.

Witches ,

Devils,

And Skeletons

peer out shop windows.

Scarecrows stand guard in Carmel Plaza.

But my favorite stop is at Diggety Dog

The dog cookies are quite tempting.

Including the“very scarey treats”.

But the pet costumes are the most fun of all. I would love to be in Carmel to see some real dogs parade down Ocean Ave. in these outfits.

When black cats prowl and pumpkins gleam,

May luck be yours on Halloween.
