SEA BEAUTY – A CHARMING COTTAGE IN CARMEL-BY-THE SEA

It is Sunday afternoon and Bill and I are walking home from The Mission Ranch, where we have enjoyed the “jazz brunch”.  A jazz combo plays while we go through the brunch line and then eat outside in the sunshine and watch the sheep in the meadow. It is all very civilized. We are walking up the hill toward home and spot SEA BEAUTY with a for sale sign in her front yard. I decide to come back later with my camera and capture some of her charms for you.

She sits on a hillside and I go down the sloping driveway to knock on the front door. No one answers so I leave my card and start taking photos.

The path is Carmel stone and the front porch is a treasure of fine  wood, details and potted plants.

The builder has used wooden details and repeated them to give his house unity in its design.

A stone pathway leads along the front of the house

past flower filled window boxes

to a side porch and the second entrance to the house.

I love the way the window box wraps around the corner and softens it.

I peek inside – WOW.

I admire the copper gutters and downspouts

and start down the side steps to the patio below.

A outdoor fireplace is the focal point.

Winding gravel pathwork

Leads to a bench at the bottom of the yard

And I can look up to admire the view

When I get home, I go to the website and take a tour of the interior.

I love the way the living room

Dining room

And kitchen flow together.

The master bedroom

and bath are on the main level

And the house boasts a loft

That opens to a deck with a beautiful ocean view.

The asking price is $2,795,000. Later when I check again there is a sale pending. I hope they can make it work. What a beautiful home. Although built in 1964, it looks brand new.

Wow. Nice to see a newer house fit in so well with the Carmel vernacular. Can’t believe it was built in 1964 – they must have re-done everything (windows included). Imagine – a deck with an ocean view, too! Couldn’t walk in high heels on that stone walkway, though! (That would not be a problem for me 😉 .) I’ve noticed lately that your sidebar with the Archives list covers the main picture of the house. Any way you can move this so your pictures aren’t obscured? It’s usually your lead-in full photo that gets covered up, and I’d like to be able to see the whole picture of the full front view.

    Hi, Linda –

I’m a longtime reader of your charming blog, and today while at lunch over a delicious salad at Portobello’s, I was sharing which blogs they should be reading, and we looked up yours on the iPhone on the spot!

So imagine my surprise to see this, your latest entry, was about Sea Beauty! You see, I work for the Weathers Group, the very team listing this beautiful property. We’re very fond of this Carmel gem, and this home is still looking for a good owner as of today. I just know someone is going to snatch it up over the holidays. It’s such a grand but cozy home!

Anyway, I would so love to run into you someday in town. We have a tiny office in the Courtyard of the Golden Bough, right behind the Cottage of Sweets. Look to the right, you’ll see the blue Weathers sign. Come on by sometime! I’d love to meet you!

Best wishes for a happy Christmas and a terrific Carmel New Year!

    Hi Linda,
What a beautiful blog. Love the houses and the area. If I ever win the lottery I’m buying one. These make my day.
    Thank you for sharing.

    Hello Linda,

These pictures are so gorgeous! I was wondering if I could use the 2nd one for my website’s header image. I would really appreciate it!

    Thank you,
    Joel

      Hi Joel,
My Carmel house photos are done without permission from the owners so they can not be used in this way. I am glad you like them and wish you a successful year!

Carmel by the sea cottages connotes simplistic style but extremely high quality finishes and treatments to enable these homes to compliment the exquisite surroundings from the most beautiful area in California!
While these homes may be simple in style, there is no lack of quality appointments which these homes all have and endear tourists from all over the world!!!
