A FLOOR PLAN FOR A FAIRYTALE COTTAGE
Karen and I are out for a walk and see that the Craftsman cottage down the street is being held open.
We can not resist. The pots and window boxes overflow with plants and the dutch door stands half open.
This time I remember to pick up a floor plan to share with you.
For years I collect and discard these treasures.
We enter the small, bright foyer and remove our shoes.
The floors throughout the house are made of recycled Pecan wood.
The first bedroom in this 3 bedroom 2.5 bath cottage is our first stop. Bill would claim this for his study .
The open book and eyeglasses on the daybed are all it takes to make me want to cozy up in the cushions and read.
But I press on.
The half bath also serves as a guest bath. 
Tescher redid this cottage in 2004 and I am delighted with how well he blended the new and the old.The stairs are one of the original features.
Karen goes in the kitchen but I choose to climb those darling stairs.
What a great view of the living room.
The bedroom at the top has a vaulted ceiling, window seat and a balcony that I can not get my camera to include in the shot.
The glass shower walls make the bath seem more spacious and I love the window and the beadboard walls.
But the pecan floors make this house just glow with their warm color.
Karen is calling from downstairs, so down I go-
what a great place for a window. There are so many unique details in this house.
Back through the living room
which opens to a deck as does the kitchen-dining room.
I can see why Karen is crazy about the kitchen. It is spacious, well-lit and has a beamed ceiling and a copper hood for the stove.
Some of the cabinet doors are glass.
Stairs at the west end of the kitchen lead down to the walk-out master bedroom .
The city of Carmel marches down to the ocean which creates lots of sloping lots.
There is a second fireplace and loads of light in this charming room.
French doors open onto a private patio and the bathroom has both a soaking tub
and shower. Wow! Double sinks and a vanity. I love it.
We chat with the realtor for a while and then head out towards our next adventure. This Craftsman Cottage is a real charmer.
When I look on the internet, the house sold. The asking price was $2,195,000.
Someone is going to love their new home.
I wonder what they will name it?

Love it Linda. The very short time we were in town ( long story) there was an open house at Carmelo ( I think it was, the one you showed us a while back) but alas it was over. Keep up the excellent photos and the Open Houses!

Well done remodeling. I love the board and batten interior walls, which you see in those old Carmel single-wall cottages. Thanks for including the floor plan – save those treasures! That helps in realizing just how small these cottages are, and how the spaces flow together. Those stair treads are so unique! I didn’t see an entrance to the master bedroom from the dining area – I guess you have to go up and down stairs???
Oh to live in a Carmel fairy-tale cottage that you bring to life with your view. *Long sigh*
